Information on Hygiene

Admission Rules

Please arrive punctually, this does not mean too early or too late. This will help to avoid crowds at the entrance and to keep the distance regulations. For example, if you have bought a ticket for 5.30 pm, you can arrive at the entrance between 5.30 pm and 6 pm.

Highly frequented areas such as catering and sanitary facilities are regularly disinfected. Spread over the entire site, there will also be sufficient stations for hand disinfection.

Distance Control

Please keep a distance of 1.50 metres to people who are not part of your family or household.

At the entrance and on the Christmas Garden site, all employees and visitors must wear a mouth and nose protector. This applies to both indoor and outdoor areas. If you do not have a mouth and nose protector, you can purchase one on site.
Scarves, cloths or other textiles are not sufficient.

Personalised Ticketing

In order to be able to trace possible chains of infection, we as promoters are obliged to record your name and contact details. We use computer-controlled, personalised ticketing. In doing so, we observe both the relevant requirements of the authorities and the data protection regulations in accordance with the DSGVO. Children’s tickets must also be personalised and must contain all the necessary information. Only a personalised ticket then authorises you to enter. We ask you to present the purchased tickets and a photo document (identity card, driving licence, etc.) at the entrance.

If you are unable to attend on the day of the event, you can change your print@home or mobile ticket in your booking account at The re-personalisation will be done online.
If the ticket was sent to you by post, it will be re-personalised on site at the box office. There, you or the new visitor in question would enter the previous ticket and all the above-mentioned details of the new ticket holder. You can find the form here.

Public Security and Hygiene Concept

With an increased security and steward staff as well as a professional admission organisation, we take the security requirements which have been tightened over the past years into due account on the basis of current standards as well as the hygiene and distancing recommendations (more information). In the interests of a quick admission, we kindly ask you not to take along large bags.

Generell Information

Admission Times

To allow you an experience full of atmosphere, the admission is limited for visitors per 30 minutes. Please show up at the admission time shown on your ticket and pass the entrance within the half hour mentioned on your ticket. Example: if you have bought a ticket for 5.30 pm, you can show up for admission between 5.30 pm and 6 pm.

The evening box office closes at 9 pm. Last admission to the Christmas Garden Köln and to the trail is at 9 pm. We ask for your understanding that the security services will inform the visitors still on the trail from 9.45 pm onwards that the Christmas Garden will close at 10 pm.

Animal Houses and Animal Protection

The animal houses are closed in the evening during the Christmas Garden.
The majority of the zoo residents spend the night in their enclosures. They are not affected by the sparkling light installations. The animals, which also spend the night outside, are not sensitive to light effects.

You can visit the animal houses during their regular opening hours.

Annual tickets and Friends of the Kölner Zoo

As the Christmas Garden is a special event at the Kölner Zoo, day and annual tickets of the Kölner Zoo are not valid.
Please note that due to the event, the Kölner Zoo will close at 5 pm from November 19, 2020 to January 10, 2021.

Annual ticket holders and members of the Friends of the Kölner Zoo receive a 10% discount when purchasing a ticket. The discount can only be granted at the box office.

Bicycles and Sleighs

Unfortunately bicycles and sleighs are not allowed in the area. Please keep in mind that there are no bicycle racks inside the area either.

We kindly ask for your understanding that dogs (including on a leash) and other animals are not admitted to the Christmas Garden. This does not apply to certified assistance dogs.

Ticket Information and Return of tickets

Children (under the age of 4) have free access to the Christmas Garden. The children receive, however, a free-of-charge ticket so that the precise number of visitors can be checked.
In our online ticket shop you have the possibility to acquire print@home and mobile tickets. You can buy these until shortly before the event and take them along with you on your mobile phone or as a printout.

Please note that in the event of loss of the ticket, no replacement or additional printout will be possible. In the same way a return or exchange of tickets is not possible. In accordance with § 312g Para 2 Sentence 1 No. 9 BGB (German Civil Code) there is no right to revocation when acquiring tickets despite the basic existence of a distance selling transaction. This unfortunately also means that when buying tickets the two-week right of revocation and return is completely excluded.

If you have any questions about tickets you have already purchased, please contact the ticket provider

The (non-guided) tour is recommended trail and is approximately 2 kilometers long. Depending on your time of stay it takes approximately 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Of course you can have breaks on your way and extensively admire our installations or stay longer at our photo points. Toilets and catering are likewise available along the way.

Visitors with Disabilities

Adult visitors with disabilities need a ticket for adults. Children with disabilities need a ticket for children. Upon presentation of a severely disabled person’s identity card (mark B), an accompanying person will receive free entry to the Christmas Garden. The accompanying person does not need a ticket and can pass through the entrance with the visitor.

The path is barrier-free and therefore wheelchair accessible. There are handicapped accessible toilets on the site.

Weather and Clothing

Christmas Garden Köln takes place at any weather – including rain. You should be aware of this when purchasing a ticket. Any return of tickets in case of bad weather is unfortunately excluded as long as there is no acute danger for visitors. The Christmas Garden is an outdoor event. Please think of weatherproof clothing and solid footwear.
